Two old friends.
Two very different paths.
Come together after 25 years+ of friendship to form something they both love!
How Jenn got sick of how things were being done.
Jenn is an education junkie and proud of it. She’d be a perennial student if someone paid her to do so. (And, if you find that person, please let her know.)
She ran a successful acupuncture business for several years which she sold to focus solely on LearnSavvy. She has flirted with several other business ventures and ideas through the years until she finally (hurray!) found “the one”.
Jenn was at a point where her business and personal life were both suffering and she wondered how other women managed their businesses, themselves, and their families. She casually searched around but found few examples to draw on for ideas.
She asked other women who they were learning from and who were their female role models of success – both professionally and personally.
When she discovered that women had a tough time answering this question–similar to her own experience when searching for examples she could learn from– she decided she needed to take action. And that’s what lead to the Role Models Wanted Project that turned into her book Women Entrepreneur Revolution: Ready! Set! Launch! (Balboa Press, 2014).
After a year of speaking to 100+ bright, accomplished female entrepreneurs from a vast array of industries, Jenn distilled down what makes female entrepreneurs unique and further highlighted the importance that role models have on women everywhere. This experience opened Jenn’s eyes up to what was possible for her own life and fanned her courage to make bolder moves in business.
At the same time, Jenn was increasingly frustrated by the massive amounts of information available online on how to start and grow a business. People were offering robust and pricey programs (which she has happily taken many) but often found that she just needed to learn a specific skill – answer a particular question – that would help her get ever closer to her goals.
The free stuff out there wasn’t really cutting it and she spent hours upon hours of free lessons only to discover that it wasn’t all that great and often a waste of time. She realized that over the years she had cobbled together what she needed from several different sources spending vast and precious time doing so.
We started LearnSavvy as an education marketplace but we realized very quickly we weren’t adding to the community – we were simply more noise.
All that information meant diddly squat unless it was put into action.
Jenn was lucky to have started a Mastermind group several years back… a group of aspiring, committed and amazing women that spoke weekly on business. THAT WAS THE MISSING LINK!
Education is meaningless unless put into action and what enables action – ACCOUNTABILITY and support! And Circles were born out of the ashes of our first iteration. (Pivoting rocks!)
As Jenn was writing her book, one of her oldest, dearest friends Cortney asked how she could help. Jenn and Cortney grew up together but their lives had taken them in very different directions. Although they remained close (like sisters) they didn’t really know the ins and outs of each others lives.
Cortney kindly asked how she could help with the book project. Jenn said she needed just a few more interviews to finish up and Cortney opened up her contact list and begin making introductions to women Jenn didn’t even know Cortney knew. She was blown away with how robust Cortney’s network was.
As Jenn casually shared her next business idea, Cortney became intrigued by what she was imagining and especially excited about serving women in a larger way. She had a long career in sales and marketing balanced with teaching yoga on the side but always wanted to launch her own venture. Similar to Jenn it had to be something she believed in. Ever the saleswoman, Cortney took Jenn out for coffee and pitched why she would be the ideal business partner.
Jenn was sold. The rest, as they say, is (her)story!
What they know.
Jenn and Cortney know two things: accountability is key to action and connection is critical for success.
The more we learn and grow as women business owners the greater our impact, our income and our confidence in leaving this world better than when we entered it.
Jenn & Cortney have always wanted to help other women entrepreneurs and women simply wanting to better their skills and knowledge but both were unclear exactly how they could do this.
They realized that helping connect women and bringing them together under one virtual roof to achieve their goals, connect and inspire one another was the perfect way to serve the community they both so love!
And with that, LearnSavvy was born.
